Korg MS-20 mini is the reissue of the semi-modular 1978 Korg MS-20. $599 street price, fully analog, point-to-point recreation of the original which was $750 when it came out in 1978. It was the first synth bought by many pioneering electronic artists of the 80s, as it was the first relatively affordable, portable, semi-modular synthesizer (was considered the poor-man’s arp 2600 in 1978–half the functionality for a quarter of the price). Many basic functions on it require patching, as if they sort of said “we ran out of knobs, let’s just do jacks!” when they were making it, but in the end it just makes it more flexible and fun.. an amazingly distinct sounding synth.
